Adeleke Transforming Osun Health Sector — UTH Board Chair, Owolade

…says the sector deserve priority attention

The nation’s healthcare sector deserves priority attention to take care of health needs of the people and ensure a healthy population.

The Chairman, Governing Council of the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, UTH, Osogbo, Barrister Niyi Owolade stated this during the 43rd edition of The Frontliners of the League of Veteran Journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday.

This is even as Owolade commended the State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke for his government’s investment in the health sector.

He described heathcare delivery in Nigeria as a key sector but has been taken for granted by successive administrations in the country.

Bar. Owolade who insisted that many things were taken for granted with regards to health care added that Osun State is lucky to have Governor Ademola Adeleke who is ready to spend money.

He said, “Health care is key sector that Nigeria pay lukewarm service to and the care of the aged

“It is capital intensive and we thank God that we have a governor that is ready to spend the money

“Health care delivery is not for the faint hearted. It involves a lot of money spending.”

Owolade revealed that Osun governor has started well and the state government has promised that the health sector will be a priority in 2025.

He added that the Osun State government has gone the extra mile to invest in the health sector and there is more in the budget for the sector.

“We are overwhelmed at the tertiary level. Nobody wants to go for treatment at other tiers if health facilities again. Because if this, our staff goes the extra mile

“We urge the government to observe that and out in more to help the tertiary institution.

“WHO standard is one nurse to three patients but this is not so in Osun. They are overwhelmed. We pray for more government intervention.”

He also disclosed that UNIOSUNTH has been able to stem the tide of brain drain through emoluments and other incentives.

On personnel, he revealed that government has promised that approval for recruitment of more health personnel will be issued.

Welcoming the guests, the Acting Chairman, Osun State League of Veteran Journalists, Adeyeye Oyedokun stated that media is crucial to the stability of democracy in the country.

Oyedokun said the versatility of the profession makes it a key to unlocking frontline issues and brining such issues to lime light .

“The media remains crucial to the stability of democracy in the country and also help in showcasing emphasis of utmost importance.”

The Chief Medical Director of Onward Specialist Hospital, Agunbelewo, Dr Daniel Aremu Laosebikan, the Chairman of the occasion said journalists were no longer the dregs of the society as it used to be years before.

“They are now accomplished authors of books and journals.”
