Aregbesola Inaugurates Local Government Exexutive Secretaries in Osun
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state has rubbished the call for local government autonomy in Nigeria describing it as irrelevant an unnecessary debate.
Governor Aregbesola spoke in Osogbo during the swearing in of the 67 newly appointed Executive Secretaries of local government and local council development authorities caretaker committee in the state.
The governor had earlier forwarded names of the caretaker committees to the state house of Assembly for screening and approval after long absence of political appointees at the third tier of government in the state.
Aregbesola believes that, under true federalism, power is shared between federal and state government, while local government remains an integral part of the state.
He told the new executive secretaries to see their roles as a call to service just as he tasked them to mobilise the people of their domains to meet their civic obligations and responsibilities, which include payment of levies and tax.
He also asked the executive secretaries to elimination street trading which poses a lot of danger to the people.
