Obaship: Moro Chiefs, Community Members Reject Imposition of Prince Adebayo
…Appeal to Osun Governor, Ooni to halt process
The Moro Community, led by the Olumoro-in-Council in Ife-North local government area of Osun State has rejected the purported selection of Prince Oyeyemi Gideon as the next monarch for the town.
Addressing a press conference on Friday in Moro, the Oosa of Moro land, High Chief Festus Abidemi Abidoye, on behalf of the community appealed to the State governor, Ademola Adeleke and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi to remove their consents and reverse the selection.
Chief Abidoye noted that the people of the community home and in the diaspora are not interested in any individual like prince Adebayo who did not possess any quality of a leader who could drive the desired growth and development of the town.
The Council urged the Osun State Government to impose an embargo on all documentation associated with the recent selection of Prince Oyeyemi Gideon Adebayo for a traditional leadership position.
The Oosa expressed concerns about the selection process, labeling it as controversial and called on the Governor to halt any further actions regarding the candidate.
He said “Selection carried out at Edunabon on 30th October 2024 does not have any the support of our people home and in the diaspora; since then the palace gate has been under lock and key, all chiefs boycott the palace to prove to the world that the selection of Prince Oyeyemi Gideon Adebayo is a manipulation and unacceptable by the people of Moro.”
He also demanded on behalf of the community that the government initiate a fresh process to ensure fairness and transparency.
In addition, the council called on the Salu of Edunabon, Oba Kehinde Oladepo, to refrain from influencing the chieftaincy matters in Moro, which they claim have further complicated the situation.
The Olumoro-in-Council however appealed with the people of the community, especially the youth to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, while emphasising that there should be no room for mayhem.
“We appeal to every son and daughter of Moro that Moro remains our home, nobody should toy with it. Government is capable of handling what Moro wants. There should be no cause for mayhem, whereby we need to remain as peace keepers and lawful citizens,” Chief Adebayo said.
Speaking, the Loogun of Moro, Chief Olalekan Obisakin alleged that the kingmakers were mnipulated due to their incapability to read and write and were made to vote against their wish.
He warned that Moro town can be susceptible to youths unrest being a student populated area, saying government must thread with care.
Also, the Youth Leader, Moro Elijah Olajide who led his counterparts to the venue of the press conference on a peaceful protest called on all the consenting authorities to reverse the selection of Prince Adebayo.
