19-year Girl Old Dies In Osun Flood Disaster

A 19-Year old girl has reportedly lost her life in a flooded stream occasioned by a torrential rain that lasted several hours on Tuesday evening in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Eyewitness accounts say the victims who were probably going on a motorcycle during the heavy downpour fell at different time into the water and slipped into the stream.

Two of the victims were were rescued through efforts of concerned residents but luck was not on the side of the 19-year old gird.

Her lifeless body was said to have been recovered the on Wednesday at about 1:30pm inside some bamboo tree where she was stocked.

Three motorcycles were also reportedly recovered and handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

The resident acknowledged government’s intervention to control flood in the area last year but wants the culvert to be expanded to allow free passage of water as well as to prevent overflow.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola who visited the affected places assured residents of quick government intervention.

The Governor however warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse particularly on the water channels.
