2023/2024: Federal Polytechnic Ede, Matriculates 9,150 Fresh Students
…gifts 200,000 naira each to two ‘scholars’ with 3.98 CGPA
The Federal Polytechnic, Ede has admitted a total number of 9,150 new students into various courses of study offered at both National and Higher National Diploma levels in the 2023/2024 academic session.
This amounts to 59.5% of candidates who signified interest to study various courses in the Polytechnic.
The school Rector, Dr. Man Yahaya Sani disclosed this on Friday, at the 30th Matriculation Ceremony of fresh students for the new academic session.
He said, “The statistics shows that 1,123 students were admitted for School of Science and Technology; 1,316 students for School of Communication and Information Science; 2,185 students for School of Business and Management Studies; 1,454 students for School of Engineering Technology, while 886 and 121 students were admitted into Schools of Environmental Studies and Agriculture and Agricultural Technology respectively. The School of Applied Sciences has 1,973 students while School of General and Administrative Studies enrolled 92 students.”
Describing the statistics as “quite unfortunate” Dr. Sani assured that “the Polytechnic would continue to deepen its Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) mechanism to complement the efforts of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in the maintenance of standards.”
According to him, “Critical to standards and the nation’s technological advancement are adherence to the 70:30 enrolment ratio in favor of science and technology-based programmes, proportion of academic staff showing right mix, teaching quality including staff/student ratio.”
While congratulating the matriculating students, expressed conviction and trust in God that the Polytechnic would be able to nurture their growth and development in all facets of life.
He said “Let me use this opportunity to offer you one or two words of advice. As bonafide students of this Polytechnic, you must endeavour to have a copy of the Students’ Information Handbook. Make this handbook your companion, read it regularly and be familiar with its contents. It will definitely help to maximize the advantage of your studentship.”
He however, sounded a note of warning that the Polytechnic has zero tolerance for cultism, rioting, looting, arson, disobedience, examination malpractices, drug abuse, drunkenness, cheating, disrespect for constituted authorities, indecent dressing.
The Rector restated that the ban on students’ vehicles as well as vehicles with tinted glasses and unregistered vehicles is still in force.
On the latest success recorded by the institution, Dr. Sani disclosed that the polytechnic has secured approval to offer additional 18 new programmes at both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels with effect from this session.
“With this development, the programmes run by the Polytechnic, all fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Muhammed Bugaje, has now increased to 64 and 42 Departments.
“This remarkable success does not only highlights the academic prowess of our students but also reflects the high standards of education and preparation provided by the Polytechnic. This is a very good signal to the fact that this administration is not relenting on its oars in moving this Institution to its desired position as the best in comity of Polytechnics in West Africa,” he said.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of cash gift of 200,000 naira each to the two ‘scholars’ in the last academic session, Waliu Babatunde Bamidele of the Department of Library & Information Science and Babatunde Joshua Ifeoluwa of the Department Mechanical Engineering with the CGPA of 3.98 in National Diploma, respectively.
