A 40-year-old man, Olakunle Sodeinde, has been declared wanted by the police after escaping from custody while receiving hospital treatment for injuries sustained during a mob attack over alleged homosexual activities.

His partner, identified as Tunde Bolaji, was found dead the day after the initial incident.

A police source confirmed on Thursday that a manhunt for Sodeinde has been intensified. The suspect was initially apprehended on Saturday, September 8, after officers rescued him from an angry mob.

“Bisexuality is considered unacceptable in this community, and many are aware of this in Nigeria. The community leader does not take such matters lightly. It is regarded as an offense, and the consequences can be severe.”

Details of the Incident and Partner’s Death

The incident occurred after Sodeinde and Bolaji attended a night party in Akoka-Bariga, Lagos. Sodeinde later confessed that he and Bolaji were intoxicated and caught having sex in Bolaji’s car by a local vigilante group, identified as the Oodua Progressive Congress (OPC).

The vigilantes severely beat both men with cutlasses and charms, leading police to intervene and take the two critically injured men to a hospital to face subsequent prosecution.

“We discovered the remains of his partner the next day by the roadside, and he has been identified as Tunde Bolaji,” the police source stated, noting that Bolaji died on September 9 due to complications from his injuries.
