Art & Drama: Veritable Means To End Gender Based Violence

Art and creativity have been described as viable medium that can create better awareness and trigger right expression and action in the youth towards ending gender based violence.

This was brought to the fore during arts and drama competition by some secondary school students in ile-ife, Osun state

The competition, organised by
Initiative for Girls Rights and Health Development, IGRHD was said to be part of the 16 days of activism on GBV initiated to commemorate International Day for the Elimination of violence against women.

Themes of the dramas presented by the participating schools border on sexual assault, early marriage, genital mutilation, battery, moral assault and many other vices against the female gender

Addressing journalists, Executive Director of IGRHD, Ayodeji Awodoyin
said the competition was intended to sensitize the youth, who are the most vulnerable, on negative effects of anti sexual and all forms of gender based violence against women.

Awodoyin said the youth will contribute more meaningfully to activism against gender based violence if they are sensitized in a conducive atmosphere that will be memorable and trigger right expression and action towards curbing the menace.

Winners in the competition were presented with different awards and cash prizes.
