Chelsea Player Reportedly Set To Switch National Teams From England To Ghana
Callum Hudson-Odoi spent most of his vacation in Ghana, where he met prominent political leaders and gave back to the community his father grew up in.
Now, as per several reports from Ghana, the attacker is set to switch his national allegiances from England to the Black Stars.
The head of the Ghana FA, Kurt Okraku hinted at as much last month: “I spoke with Callum before he got to Ghana, and we promised to speak again when we meet in Ghana, we have met, we’ve had discussions that centred beyond playing for Ghana, and he has a crazy ambition of helping kids in Ghana and this is what excites me the most.
“We are looking forward to working with Odoi and his family and many other players who are interested in representing their country. We have a lot of them like that, we are talking to the technical team and the political authorities in getting them to play for Ghana.”
And now reports from websites such as GhanaSoccerNet claim that the racial abuse received by England stars Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho finally convinced Hudson-Odoi to change his national team.
The report specifies: “Hudson-Odoi has been left distraught due to his great relationship with the trio as a Three Lions player, and as a result, opted to represent Ghana.”
However, this switch can’t be made official until November 2022, as FIFA rules demand that players become eligible for a switch only three years after their last appearance for the association they wish to leave.
The Chelsea star’s last appearance for England was in November 2019, so he will have to wait for some time to make this switch.
