Cultism: UNIOSUN Student Set Ablaze, Rescued, Moved to Undisclosed Hospital – Management Confirms

A middle-aged man who was suspected to have been set ablaze by some cult members in Osogbo is not dead as rumoured in some quarters.

The victim, Victor Oke, a student of the Osun State University, Osogbo campus was allegedly set ablaze by rival cult group members after being macheted.

The incident occurred on Saturday around, Osunlepo, Akede area of Osogbo, Osun State capital.

Daily Mail gathered that victor was rescued and taken to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment.

The school authorities said, victor has been moved to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.


When contacted, the Spokesperson of the Osun State police command, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.

She said Victor was reportedly chased by suspected cultists to the area, macheted before they poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.

“The perpetrators will be arrested as our men have commenced investigations into the matter,” Opalola said.

Also, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Ademola Adesoji who confirmed the studentship of the victim said Victor is a 500 level part time student of political science.


In a statement issued and personally made available to Daily Mail on Monday in Osogbo, the PRO said the University security unit is currently working with the Police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to book.

He implored everyone to be calm and continue with their normal activities assuring that the management of the University would continue to remain committed to the safety of the lives and property of its stakeholders.

The statement read in part: “We received a report of an attack on one of our part time final year Political Science student, OKE Ademiju Victor in the late hours of Saturday, 11th December, 2021 around Akede, Osunlepo area of Osogbo.

“The University noticed that Oke Ademiju Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents. It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

“It was gathered that some of the eye witnesses living in the area where the incident happened reported that they heard OKE Ademiju Victor shouting that he is not joining their cult group while they continue to hit him with cutlasses, hard stones and attempted to burn him, partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.”

“We had since been following up with the parent and it is confirmed that he was rushed to the University’s teaching hospital for treatment and later moved to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.”
