Dear Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, You Succeeded By Adewale Adeniran
In 2018 I never wanted you to win the election because, I was displeased by the style, actions and some policies of Ogbeni Aregbesola’s administration. While Sen. Adeleke of PDP couldn’t convince me enough, I supported Sen. Iyiola Omisore of SDP. When it was obvious that SDP was not going to win, I switched support for PDP, eventually gbogbo wa lule. So sad.
With a liberal mind, I put up a write up before the rerun that people should embrace whoever is declared Governor, I titled it “How to Avoid heartbreak after today’s election. “ Where I said you may not follow previous Governor’s footstep and also defended Sen. Adeleke, that exam failure is not enough yardstic to cendemn him. here is the link to that write up https://web.facebook.com/Walarin/posts/pfbid02f2vAWgvP66wuHoMVDLSnQ3L7psq5hf2SC7gx1pHAZbspUQ6qeWLoYxhUTU5AwYSPl In fairness, you came in and did the best you can.
I said here on facebook that you are such an unlucky Governor, there was a suit to challenge your victory in the first year which definitely got you distracted, Just when you won at supreme court, COVID came which took away the entire 2020 away, after Covid came endsars and after that you started preparing for next election, this is the link to that write up https://web.facebook.com/profile/100000421608401/search/?q=unlucky%20governor
But in all these you were still able to do projects. while I won’t say you are a saint, I will say you unimaginably performed beyond my expectation. If anyone travels well around Osun, they will agree with me that you constructed several awesome roads, roads that would tempt you to speed at 160km/hr, one of the few roads that allow me use the cruise option on my car, the IGR got increased, you reversed unfriendly policies, you gave out loans, free health care for nursing mothers, regular payment of salaries, you were prudent, deliberate in your projects, Infact I was discussing with egbon Adedapo Olakunle Saba yesterday, someone I know never liked APC and he agreed you did well but despite all, you lost. I talked about your good job here https://web.facebook.com/Walarin/posts/pfbid02nHp7qmfo2VcxbidqoZHzP8yjuUYA4tp3KWdEP21a4rWJYoWTDEUsN4UW12XHnfeVl
In my Opinion, several factors worked against you.
1. You lost because you are in the party APC. In Nigeria, we still see party as the evil not minding what personality is vying under it, Osun people already dislike APC.
2. People still attributes sins of Ogbeni Aregbesola to you. This is why till now they still ask you about their half salary backlog, Osun helicopter and the rest.
3. You were calm lol, No propaganda, Someone told me he preferred Aregbesola to you because Aregbe get action. a lot of your achievements were unknown by many people, I remember how Aregbe painted Opon Imo, Oyes, Igi iye, and introduced fantastic use of drones to magnify projects. It was all over local and international media.
4. The rancor in your party contributed to your lost, right on the field as a reporter, I met APC members canvassing against you, there is no dangerous enemy as the one who refused to leave but is against you
5. You had some cabinet members not representing too well, their ministry appeared idle.
6. Your government remain the only government that people didn’t jubilate when you came on board, It was people within your party jubilating, because we were all angry with the APC. When Oyinlola took over It was jubilation everywhere, same as when Aregbesola took over, so also was Adeleke, but in your case, you were considered the previous government continuity plus your government was seen as a stolen mandate, it was not a free and fair rerun, I said it here in my submission https://web.facebook.com/Walarin/posts/pfbid0B2XWiCFe7Z5EMw5MgHnq85dW2ENvnHqKJo4Mwe1AD6biyCrjUbNbxo6kNdB1LUScl and there is nothing you will do that will please people until that party is changed.
7. You also lost because some people believe that any governor going for second term will do nonsense, I met people who believe that your doing well is a pretence to get into office second time and now show us pepper.
8. Civil servants were still angry with their backlog salary and also felt betrayed by Omisore in 2018, All the polling units in Osogbo that were won by SDP in the last election I covered were won by PDP this time around.
But despite all these, I concluded that you are a success, This is why.
During the last election, anyone who voted against APC voted for other parties. PDP had over 255k votes, SDP had over 128k votes, ADP had almost 50k votes, ADC had over 7k votes. If all opposing votes where put together, it would have amounted to over 440k votes, and that would have been a landslide victory for the PDP with margin of over 185k. Lets even say that some 40k from opposing votes would have voted for APC back then, the margin would still have been over 145k votes. Now in 2022, more people voted than previous election, and and there was no single party dividing the votes with large numbers, and you were able to close it to 28k margin, considering the problem in your party and short time you had. This for me is victory, You were able to buy people who disliked you in 2018, at least I know of me, Elufowora Eluyemi Lateef Olanrewaju Niyi and several others.
In this 2022 election, I had no candidate, I told my crew that I am ok with anyone winning. So Adeleke won and I am sure he has agenda too. In few years time, all these complains against you will go down and you will be remembered by the giant strides you pulled. What made me respect you is the fact that you didn’t borrow more money, you were offsetting the previous debts and still doing projects without owing salary, not without an increase in IGR. I am wowed.
I find the lawsuit against the PDP unnecessary except your lawyer is too sure of the reason he is going to court, otherwise, I will advice you congratulate the new government, make the transition process an easy one, give him support to take Osun to next level.
I am optimistic that Sen Ademola Adeleke will do well too, he will want to maintain a good name now that we all know that vote counts. He is a new breathe, let’s enjoy him, we want him to succeed too.
I personally wish you well and thank you for your service in Osun even though many people won’t see it. Good bye and have a good rest.
Yours sincerely,
