The Osun State Council of Obas has expressed concern about the incessant faceoff between the federal government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) describing the development as setback to education sector.
The monarchs said, as custodians of culture and traditions, they cannot fold their arms and watch things degenerate.
Rising at the end of its monthly council meeting in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, the traditional rulers sought calm and restraint on the part of two warring parties for the overall development of the education sector on one hand and the country on the other.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal who presided over the meeting on behalf of the Chairman of the the state Council of Obas, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Monarch bemoaned the incessant face off between the Federal Government snd ASUU.
Oba Lawal emphasized the need for both sides to bury their hatchets and allow reasons and decency to prevail saying, no nation desirous of making it big in all sectors of its existence can readily joke with its education sector.
He said “In order not to further pull the hands of the clock back in this sector because of the attendant dire consequences especially, in the area of development, I am using this opportunity on behalf of my colleague Obas in Osun state to call for an amicable resolution of the crisis.
“For the overall interest of the students, their parents and the Nigerian federation,this can not be emphasized. To this end, I am stating emphatically , that ,we are not in anyway happy about this imbroglio between the two warring sides. It is high time they saw reason on the need to embrace peace and harmony for the growth of our country’s educational sector. No nation toys with its education the way it looks like in our country today .
“The future of our children must not and should not be mortgaged on the alter of complex and ego being displayed between the FG and ASUU “Enough is enough please please. Against this backdrop, I call on the father of the Nigerian federation and the Commander in Chief of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to use the executive power and authority at his disposal to nip this impasse in the bud once and for all
“President Buhari should please act fast so that the present and future generations of the Nigerian students and their parents will record his name in gold as one Nigerian leader who brought final sanity into the Nigerian education sector.
In another development, the Alara of Ara Oba ( Dr.) Olubayo Adesola Windapo and the Aragberi of Iragberi Oba Dr. Folorunso Agboade Ilufemiloye have underscored the need for people especially their fellow Obas to take good care of their health in line with the popular saying, “health is wealth”.
During a heath talk for Osun Council of Obas tagged “stay young and healthy water therapy” the two monarchs who are trained medical experts spoke extensively on the benefits of water in the body system.
They said water is cheap and common but very very essential for the overall good and development of the body system.
The monarchs who also emphasized importance of regular exercise to keep body and soul fit, reiterated the need for their fellow Obas to be mindful of what to eat and drink at all times.
