Wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola has charged mothers to continue to nurture their children to become responsible citizen of the State.

She also urged them to cooperate and collaborate with the government in fighting child abuse and other related vices.

Mrs Oyetola was speaking on Thursday during the 2021 end of the year children’s party held at the government house grounds, Okefia Osogbo.

She stated her commitment and determination to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the recently passed Violence Against Persons Prohibition law (VAPP law) in the State is effectively implemented.

“Our mothers should continue the roles of nurturing and giving directions to the children to become good citizens with high civic responsibilities. We should collaborate in fighting child abuse, violence against children, trafficking and female genital mutilation/cutting, rape and other forms of violence against persons.

“I urge the parents to take special and deliberate interest in what goes on in our schools. Our show of interest would help nip in the bud, the increasing cases of sexual harassment and assault on our girls.

“I am determined to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the recently passed Violence Against Persons Prohibition law (VAPP law) get implemented effectively. The law aims at making life more abundant for our girls, our women, and our families. We shall work at meeting these goals.

“Our educational system is being methodically reformed to deliver quality and life changing education to our children. All these investments are geared for the successful upbringing of our children. They are for the optimal functioning of the family, and our state.

While congratulating the children for witnessing another end-of-year, the First Lady urged them to continue to improve on their education, saying the future belongs to those who are educated.

“Let us face our studies. If you must take control of tomorrow, education is the key to doing that. Ignorance will be too costly. I have no doubt that you will make us proud. We should shun every form of behavior which will deter us from being responsible citizens” she said.

The State commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Bukola Olabopo commended the first Lady for hosting the children and celebrating with them.

She urged the children to be of good conduct and make their parents and the State proud of them.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola and some other cabinet members also graced the occasions.

The children were treated to different kinds of entertainments and also went home with gifts.
