FG TO SUPPORT NOLLYWOOD AGAINST PIRACY

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has assured the Actors Guild Of Nigeria of due protection for their intellectual Property.

He said the protection of intellectual property will improve the productivity of the Movie industry.

Dr. Onu said this when the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria paid a courtesy call on him in office in Abuja.

H said adoption of technology will enhance the technical outputs of the motion pictures industry, as well as improve the nation’s image and help in diversifying the nations economy.

The Minister described Nollywood as representing the very best ideals Nigeria can offer to the world, adding that it is a wonderful export and brand for Nigeria.

On the deployment of technology to improve Nollywood, the Minister said the production of satellite technology will help improve movie distribution, picture quality and other technical areas that will enhance its capacity.

He mentioned that agencies of the Ministry such as National Office for Technological Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and National Space Research Development Agency (NASRDA) would be on hand to develop appropriate technologies to boost productivity of the motion pictures industry.

Onu urged the practitioners to boost their increased creativity to make nollywood the best in the world.

He hailed the Actors Guild for contributing positively towards Nation-building.

Earlier, the president of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Emeka Rollas said the guild was seeking for a mutual beneficial partnership with the Ministry to improve technological advancement of the motion picture industry in Nigeria.

Mr. Rollas acknowledged the role of technology as significant in modern film distribution and reduce the risk for piracy and intellectual theft.

He advocated for the Ministry’s technological assistance to create platforms that will aid movie distribution and showcase Nigerian movies to the world.
