FIFA Club World Cup: Chelsea beat Palmeiras 2-1 in extra time to lift trophy

Chelsea beat Palmeiras 2-1 in extra time to lift CW trophy for the first time in second their attempt.

Chelsea have defeated Palmeiras 2-1 in extra time to claim their first-ever Club World Cup title.

The Club World Cup had been the only trophy missing in Chelsea’s trophy cabinet.

The Blues have won the Premier League, the Europa League, the Champions League, the League Cup, the FA Cup and the European Super Cup.

Yet the Club World Cup was missing until today.

Chelsea have won all possible trophies in Abramovich’s era. The billionare made Chelsea what they are today — serial winners.

The first half was a borefest, with both teams failing to create anything significant in front of goal.

The game picked up pace after the break, with Lukaku opening the scoring with a thumping header.

It didn’t take long for Palmeiras to equalise. The ball caught Thiago Silva’s arm as the Chelsea defender contested a header. The ref decided to award a penalty and Veiga converted.

Pulisic had a chance to put Chelsea back in the winning position but his effort from the edge of the box went wide, after a lovely combination involving Kante and Lukaku.

The game went to extra time. Pulisic hit the crossbar after a Werner pass in the first half and Ziyech’s promising cross was deflected for a corner.

Everyone thought the game was going to the penalty shootout but then Palmeiras defender Luan handled the ball in the box and VAR awarded the penalty.

Kai Havertz calmly converted from the spot, bringing Chelsea their first-ever Club World Cup title. Chelsea are the Champions of the world!!!
