FRSC begins operation “stop obstructing the road” in Osun

The Osun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission is embarking on operation “stop obstructing the road” towards ensuring free flow of traffic along all roads in the state.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Corps Commander Paul John Okpe, stated this in a meeting organised for operation officers.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the command, Agnes Ogungbemi stated the the Sector Commander specifically mentioned Owode market, Otaefun, Igbono among others where the activities of market men and women including korope drivers affect free flow of traffic.

It noted that the Command is working with the State Government to ensure sanity around the markets.

“He specifically said the interface with the state Government led to the recent removal of the mini market at Dele Yes Sir roundabout located in the state capital.

“He further hinted that the inauguration of Osun state Road safety Advisory Council (SaRSAC) will lead to making the roads safer as the Council is considering issues of vegetation along highways which aid criminality and does not give clear view, potholes among others.” the statement read.”

“Enforcement and traffic control will be intensified along with public enlightenment and advocacy through the media, motor parks, traditional leaders, Iyalojas and most importantly deployment of regular and special marshals around markets in the state.

“The Sector Commander appealed to market men and women to refrain from displaying wares on road shoulders which leads to road obstruction especially on market days, adding that the Command will do everything possible to achieve the objective. He called for collective action to check the menace

“The Sector Commander equally tasked motorists to abide with traffic rules and regulations adding that safety on our highway is a collective responsibility” the statement added.
