The Gboleru Ruling House of Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Areas of Osun State has asked the State High Court, Ikinrun Judicial Division to restrain the state government and kingmakers from picking new Akinrun of Ikinrun from Obaara Ruling House.

A member of Gboleru Ruling House, Prince Adeyemo Oyetunji on behalf of the entire Gboleru Ruling House in an application seeking the restraining order urged the court to grant an injunction to stay execution on the judgement delivered by Justice S.O. Falola, pending the Appeal.

Justice S.O. Falola on 5th November ordered the state government to pick new Akinrun from Obaara Ruling House whereas it was the turn of Gboleru Ruling House in line with the rotation arrangement in the town.

The court permitted government to skip Gboleru and move to Obaara because of the misunderstanding among member of Gboleru Ruling House.

Counsels to the Gboleru Ruling House, GA Adesina, TS Adegboyega, SB Ajibade, Hasim Abioye, Olugbenga Fayemiwo and Olasunkanmi Ladeji sought court order restraining all respondents from taking any step or further steps to fill the vacant stool of Akinrun Chieftaincy pending the hearing and final determination of the Appeal filed by the 12 Defendant/Applicant at the Court of Appeal.

The counsels said the this application became necessary because the judgement of Justice S.O. Falola delivered on 5th of November seriously affected the interest of the Applicant and the entire members of Gboleru Ruling House.

They urged the court to grant the stay of execution pending the hearing and determination of the Appeal lodged against the said judgement/order by the 12 Defendant/Applicant at the Court of Appeal, Akure.

According to counsels, the judgement is concerned with sections C and D of the Osun State Chieftaincy Laws which becomes operative when sections A and B cannot take effect due to failure to produce candidates from Gboleru ruling house.

“Whereas Gboleru ruling house has not been given opportunity to present candidates according to law as provided in sections 15A and B of the chiefs law of Osun State,” the counsel said

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Mrs Funke Egbemode said the state government would always obey court or and judgement.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Rasaki Adeosun said Gboleru Ruling House has done the right thing by seeking redress from Court. He also said that the state government would obey if the court grant the application of the Gboleru Ruling House.
