Healthcare System: NUCAMP President Advocates Integration of Traditional Herbal Resources As Alternative Complementary Medicine

National president of Nigeria Union of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners(NUCAMP), Prof. Baderinwa Adewale has called for proper integration of the traditional herbal resources as alternative complementary medicine in healthcare system.

Prof. Adewale noted that notable countries which include lndia, lsrael, China and many others in the United Kingdom and the United States are now making use of alternative medicine to complement their healthcare system.

The Professor of Alternative therapy said this during maiden conference organised by Osun State chapter of Traditional Complimentary and Alternative Medicine board, TCAM, held at the staff development centre, Abeere.

He clarified that TCAM initiative was birthed in 2018 at the federal ministry of health with the mandate to promote traditional herbal resources as alternative medicine to complement healthcare delivery, and all states were asked to domicile same.

Professor Adewale lauded governor Ademola for recognising alternative medicine, adding that government has so much to benefit if the potentials of herbal resources are fully tapped into.

Addressing newsmen, the state chairman of TCAM, High Chief Akeem Akanfe Oladebo commended governor Ademola for establishing the board in recognition of the importance of Alternative Medicine, and for making him the chairman to pilot the affairs of the board.

Chairman, Osun State House committee on health, represented by special adviser to the governor on media, Olayiwola Babatunde assured that the state government will continue to promote alternative therapy to enhance its healthcare delivery to citizens,

He also gave assurance that the state House of assembly is ever ready to support the TCAM board with necessary legislative instruments for successful discharge of its mandate.

Participants who are alternative medicine practitioners were lectured by resource persons on different topics which include: ” lmportance of Education”, “Recent Developments of the Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Nigeria”, The TCAM Mandate”,.

Others include: “Encouraging all Practitioners of Alternative Therapy to assist the general public and Mankind for a better healthy life” and ” Healing Potentials of lndegenous Plants”
