…As Iwo People Throng Oluwo’s Place in Solidarity.

Iwo palace was filled to the brim Friday afternoon by residents and indigenes of the town in solidarity with their embattled king, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi.
Some videos of a petition allegedly signed by 12 out of 13 kingmakers passing a vote of no confidence on the monarch went viral on social media.
Alluding to the assertion that only God enthrones and dethrones King while addressing mammoth crowd at his palace, the Oluwo of Iwo boasted that he will spend more 67 years on the throne.
The monarch said his only priority is to develop Iwo and see the people prosper not feeding on the fortunes of the town as preferred by the aggrieved chiefs.
“I have 67 more years to spend on the throne, I m going to live for 120 years. Those who want me out and want to become Oluwo should wait because this is my time”
“Today is my judgement day, it has come and now the people are the judges. It is now obvious that I m in good book of my people. That is why you are all standing in support of me”
“Leaders must always strive for the development of their people. If I have not been good to you my people, you would have stone me today. In as much as I m being loved by my people, nobody can remove me from being the king”.

Oba Akanbi called on his people to be brave and strong assuring them that the town will continue to witness good things during his reign.
He urged them to forgive the kingmakers whom he still considers to be his children that only make mistakes.
“They are still my sons and must be forgiven. I want you my people to also forgive them since God Almighty also forgives sinner. May God touch their hearts to realise their mistakes”.
Representative of the princes of all the four ruling houses in Iwo, Prince Lekan Lamuye said all the ruling houses are behind Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi and no chief can remove him as long as he enjoys the support of his subjects.
Prince Lamuye insisted that those chiefs are hellbent on removing Oluwa because of personal gains.
“We the people of Iwo will resist any attempt to remove, malign or defame our King by his detractors. Iwo has witnessed tremendous developments since his enthronement, this is the tempo we must sustain, Lamuye said”.
Among those who thronged the palace in solidarity with Oluwo are market women, religious leaders, members of Iwo royal families, Students’ Union leaders, commercial motor cyclists and host of others.
