Ifon/Ilobu Crisis: Ajagunla Donates 200 Bags of Rice to Communities for Victims, Says IDP Camp Ready in June

Sen. Olubiyi Fadeyi-Ajagunla

The Senator representing Osun central senatorial district, Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla on Tuesday donated a total of two hundred (200), 50kg bags of rice to Ifon and Ilobu communities as relief material.

This was a move by the Senator to cushion the effect of the crisis that lasted for months in the area, where houses, farmlands and property were razed, while also sources of livelihood were lost.

Each of the communities would eventually share a hundred (100), 50kg bags of rice among the victims of the recent communal crisis.

Senator Fadeyi-Ajagunla, during a tour of the two communities in Ifon Orolu and Irepodun local government, empathised with the two communities over the unfortunate incident.

His first port of call was the palace of Olobu of Ilobu in Irepodun local government where he met with the monarch, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, his chiefs and other stakeholders in the town.

The senator appreciated the community for agreeing to sheath their sword in order to allow peace to return to the area, just as he appealed to them for peace to continue to reign.

As he did in Ilobu, Senator Fadeyi-Ajagunla at the palace of Olufon praised the monarch, Oba Peter Ipadeola and the people of Ifon for their resolve to allow peace to reign in the area.

He disclosed that his effort for the creation of a camp for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP would soon come to fruition by June this year.

“I moved a motion on the floor of Senate for the creation of IDP camp in this area. It was supported by members of the Senate. We all know what happened to the then minister of Humanitarian Affairs. That’s what is causing the delay. But by the grace of God, it will happen by June this year.

“The creation of the IDP camp will be an opportunity for our people in Ifon and Ilobu to benefit what victims of crisis in other States are enjoying. Those whose houses were affected, those whose livelihoods were destroyed can have access to relief materials.

“The camp which will be located in this area will also be useful for victims of any form of disaster in other parts of Osun State to enjoy financial and material reliefs from the federal government, Senator Fadeyi-Ajagunla said.”

Speaking in their palaces during the separate visits, the Olufon of lfon-orolu kingdom, Oba Peter Ipadeola as well as Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan assured the Senator that the two communities have resolved to allow peace to reign.

They both said the two communities have signed peace-pact and that other steps were still being taking to ensure lasting peace.

Recall that the lingering crisis between Ifon and Ilobu communities was brought under control after series of security measures which included imposition of curfew and other interventions by State Government.
