Independence Day: Osun Govt kickstarts Activities With Essay Competition

Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has given approval that the year 2022 edition of the Independence Day Essay Competition should commence to commemorate the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day with call for entries to interested participants.

This is contained in a press release issued by the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Engr Olalekan Badmus in Osogbo.

According to the release, the essay competition which is in its third year, is part of Governor Oyetola’s education initiative targeted at promoting reading and writing culture, encouraging healthy and intellectual competition among students of secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the State.

The release states that participants must be of the State of Osun origin or permanently resident in the state, adding that students of public and private secondary schools located and operating within Osun State are eligible to participate.

The topics according to the release are; REAWAKENING THE PASSION FOR AGRICULTURE TO ENSURE ADEQUATE FOOD SECURITY IN NIGERIA; WHICH WAY OUT? (750 WORDS MAXIMUM) for secondary schools, while that of the tertiary institutions is; WITH ABUNDANT RESOURCES NIGERIA CAN LEVERAGE ON TO DEVELOP, THE NATION’S ECONOMY CAN BE TURNED AROUND TO MAKE THE COUNTRY A PROSPEROUS NATION; DO YOU AGREE? Not less than 1,200 words.

The release further instructs as follows; that entries must be submitted as attachment in Microsoft words or PDF format only, that entries must include details of the participants at the top of the script which must include name, contact address, name of school, level or class, email address and phone number, that all entrants must attach local government of certificate and school ID card.

The release also indicates that overall winner, first and second runners up shall emerge in both categories, the category of the entrant should be the subject of the email (eg SECONDARY SCHOOL OR TERTIARY INSTITUTION) while ONLY ONE ENTRY is allowed per participant as multiple entries from same person will lead to disqualification.

Also added is the fact that winners of the past editions are ineligible to participate

According to the statement, only 10 best essays shall be shortlisted from each category for the final round where winners will be honoured with certificates , plaques and prizes.

The statement concludes that all entries should be submitted in the approved format to: [email protected] before tuesday 13th September, 2022.

Nigeria’s Independence Day Anniversary holds 1st October every year.
