Journalists are voice of the voiceless, says Olowo-Kuta

A Frontline traditional ruler in Osun State, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Adekunle Oyelude-Makama, has described journalists as voice of the voiceless and watchdog on those in government.

Oba Adekunle Oyelude-Makama, who disclosed this while playing host to the new executive committee of the state council of the Nigeria Union Journalists led Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu said journalists have continued to set engaged in setting agenda for government functionaries which has put them on their toes.

While noting that roles of journalists as checks and balances on those in position of power cannot be overemphasized, the Olowu of Kuta promised to continue to rally necessary support and resources for members of the fourth estate of the realm.

Responding, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu appreciated support of the monarch for his unquantified support for Osun NUJ, which he noted has assisted in achieving their set objectives.

While promising to continue to rely on advice and support of the frontline monarch to achieve lots, Ajadosu said the visit was to thank the monarch for his untiring contributions to the development of mankind through his philantrophic gesture.

In a similar development,men of the pen profession will continue to maintain a cordial working relationship with all security agencies in the state.

Chairman,Osun Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu made the disclosure during a courtesy call on the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,Commander Sunday Agboola in his office.

Comrade Ajadosu,who commended civil defence corps for striving to reduce crime to the bearest minimum,added that the civil defence corps in the state has proven to be a reliable force in the fight against vandalism and energy theft.
He promised continued support of journalists in the state in propagating activities of the corps.

In his response, Corps Commander, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Sunday Agboola described media as essential in educating the public in the eradication of crime, added that the civil defence corps is ready than before in combating energy theft, vandalism, economic sabotage among others in the society.

While noting that the job of security is a collective responsibility, said his command will continue to maintain perfect relationship with journalists in the state.

Comrade Ajadosu was accompanied on the visit by Secretary of the Osun Council of the NUJ, Adeyemi Aboderin and other members of the executive committee.
