The atmosphere in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on a Saturday morning was a total departure as usual, as many chose to stay indoor based on the rumour making the round as regards commemoration of June 12.

Commercial activities were on the ebb as many shop owners did not open while very few commercial vehicle operators were on the road.

As early as 7 O’ clock in the morning protesters began to converge on the Okefia roundabouts near Government house, Osogbo.

Combined security operatives were also on ground in numbers to maintain law and order as well as ensure that there was no breakdown of law.

There was also watertight security at strategic places across the city just as patrol vehicles are moving around different locations.

The protesters which include members of civil society organisations and student unions said June 12 is so significant in the life of the nation’s democratic governance and is a veritable day to wake the government up to its responsibility.

They appealed to the Federal Government to end insecurity, maladministration, poverty, hunger, unemployment, injustice among other social and political upheavals in the land.

They later proceeded on procession carrying placards with different inscriptions, from Okefia roundabouts through Alekuwodo area to the popular Olaiya roundabouts and back to the starting point where it was terminated.
