Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola CON, on Wednesday inaugurated the Seafarers’ Centre of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Apapa, Lagos State.

The newly-inaugurated edifice is designed to offer vital social, psychological, and emotional support to the dedicated crewmen and women in the maritime industry.

Inaugurating the project, Oyetola noted that the purpose-built facility is a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in enhancing the maritime sector to add greater value to the national economy.

He avered that the reconstruction of the Seafarers’ Centre will elevate Nigeria’s rating in the global maritime community, as state of seafarers’ centre is one of the factors considered in the rating of ports worldwide.

Oyetola reaffirmed the renewed commitment and result-oriented approach of the Ministry just as he charged all heads of maritime agencies to be more audacious and innovative in spearheading smart initiatives that would create opportunities and open up new vistas of growth.

“I commended the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority for your visionary intervention in transforming this facility, which I was told was in poor condition at the beginning of this year, into a regional best-in-class that it is today.

“I urge the management to ensure proper and sustainable maintenance of the facility as I assure you of our unflinching support towards the implementation of such initiatives”, Oyetola said.
