Media hold weapons of construction, destruction – Osun NUJ chairman

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu has identified the need for journalists to give special attention in their reportage to social cohesion and national integration for the unity of the country.

Comrade Ajadosu who noted that the media holds weapons of construction and destruction said it behoves on media practitioners, as the conscience of the society to live up to the statutory responsibility of promoting good governance.

The chairman was speaking in Osogbo at a 2- day workshop organised by the Nigerian Press Council with the theme “The Role of the Media in Promoting Good Governance and Social Cohesion”.

Making reference to the recent #EndSARS protects across the country, Comrade Ajadosu acknowledged that the workshop came up at appropriate time and the theme well crafted to address the menace of fake news as it threatens national cohesion.

Earlier in a welcome address by the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Press Council, Francis Nwosu said the aim of the workshop is to enhance instrumentality of the media to deepen democracy, good governance and social cohesion.

The workshop opened on Wednesday and it is being attended by journalists from all Southwest states of Nigeria.
