Nigerian gaming and entertainment company, Orire Games, has expanded its operations into betting, virtual and casino games, with a call on Nigerian youths to embrace responsible gaming and avoid viewing betting as a means of livelihood.
The company’s Head of Product and Growth, Oluwafemi Mayungbe, disclosed this while speaking on the company’s operations and expansion, saying the new offerings were designed to provide customers with a broader range of entertainment options.
Mayungbe said Orire Games commenced operations earlier this year with its lottery platform, Orire Lottery, which features Orire Jackpot, Orire Urgent 2K and Orire Ayo.
He explained that the decision to introduce betting, virtual and casino games was part of efforts to build a wider gaming ecosystem while ensuring that customers approached gaming responsibly.
“We introduced Orire Betting, Virtual and Casino games because we want people to enjoy more gaming options. However, we do not want anyone to see gaming as a means of survival. It is meant to be entertainment, just as people pay to enjoy themselves at the cinema or a game house,” he said.
Mayungbe said responsible gaming remained a major focus of the company, noting that players had the option of setting limits on the amount they spend on the platform.
“Our focus is the ecosystem we are building and the fact that we promote responsible gaming. Players can limit the amount they spend because gaming should be enjoyed responsibly and only with money they can afford to lose,” he said.
He also disclosed that Orire Games had committed 10 per cent of its earnings to community development projects as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
According to him, the company had already commenced a water project at a school after identifying inadequate access to a reliable water supply as one of the major needs of the community.
“We are not only taking from the people; we are also giving back. We have committed 10 per cent of our earnings to community development, and we have started by building a water system for a school that needs it,” Mayungbe said.
Also speaking, Oni Olushola, a consultant to the Osun Internal Revenue Service in the Department of Business Betting Commission, commended Orire Games for registering with the state and complying with regulations governing the gaming industry.
Olushola described the company as an indigenous business and urged gaming operators to intensify efforts to promote responsible gaming, particularly among young people.
“Orire Games is an indigenous company owned by someone from Osun State, and the company has registered with the Osun Internal Revenue Service. We have provided the rules and regulations guiding the gaming segment in the state, and responsible gaming must be preached to the youths,” he said.
He advised players to stake only amounts they could comfortably afford to lose, warning against excessive betting and financial pressure.
“If someone has ₦5,000, staking ₦100 may be fair enough. People should only play with money they can afford to lose because gaming is for entertainment and not a means of survival,” Olushola said.
On the economic benefits of licensed gaming operators, Olushola said revenue generated through the sector would contribute to the development of Osun State through the government’s revenue portal.
He said compliance by gaming operators would strengthen the state’s revenue base while ensuring that businesses operating in the sector adhered to established regulations.
The development comes as the gaming industry continues to attract significant participation among Nigerian youths, making responsible gaming and regulatory compliance increasingly important issues for operators, players and government authorities.
