Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi (BOA), has formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election, pledging to unite the state and deliver transparent, people-focused governance.
Alabi was the Deputy Governor to the immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola for four years.
Unveiling his agenda under the theme “A Call to Collective Action for a Brighter Osun State,” at a media parley in Osogbo, the State capital, the Ikire-born politician noted that he held the advantage of having worked with his boss and familiar with the governance terrain of Sound.
He noted that his aspiration is borne out of commitment to people’s welfare and the love for service to the the people.
The former deputy governor stressed that Osun needs leadership that will transform education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and youth empowerment into practical dividends for citizens.
“The future of our state lies not in words, but in bold action,” he said. “My ambition is not personal; it is born out of a deep calling to serve. I have seen the struggles of our people, but also their resilience. With effective leadership, we can unlock the full potential of our state.”
Alabi outlined a broad governance philosophy anchored on Inclusive Growth through Unity and Discipline, with a 10-point agenda that includes job creation, revival of education, women and youth empowerment, and turning Osun into the cultural and tourism hub of Yoruba heritage.
He emphasized the need to restore citizens’ trust in governance through transparency and accountability, promising that his administration would make government presence felt in every community, from farmers to traders, artisans to entrepreneurs.
Alabi called on residents of the state to rally behind his vision, stressing that Osun’s progress depends on collective action across political, ethnic, and religious divides.
“We have a choice to make: to take bold action towards a better future or to wait passively for change. I invite all sons and daughters of Osun to join me on this journey. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come,” he added.
