Osun Govt Inaugurates FG Palliative Sharing Committee
We’ve recommended to govt to take delivery of the 14320 bags of rice before sharing – Committee
The Osun State government said it inaugurated a committee to work out the sharing formular of the palliatives of the federal government to the State.
The Federal Government had sent 3000 bags of rice to Osun State as part of the measures to cushion the effects of subsidy removal.
Rumours have had it that the Osun State government had shared the rice among politicians of the the ruling party’s extraction.
At a press conference called by the State government on Wednesday in Osogbo, the State capital, the commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi disclosed that the government had earlier inaugurated a committee to oversee the distribution of the palliatives.
He said the move became imperative to dispel the rumour going the round that the first and second consignments of the rice totalling 3,000 had been shared among politicians.
Alimi also said the N5 billion promised by the Federal government to the state as part of the measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal is yet to be received contrary to the rumour being peddled
The committee which was inaugurated by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi comprisea of the representatives of Osun State Muslim Community, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Labour Unions, Inter party Advisory Council (IPAC), and Joint Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPID)
Speaking one after the other, members of the committee who said they were aware that the government had taken delivery of 3,000 bags of rice, disclosed that they have recommended to the State government to wait for the expected 14320 bags of rice before commencing distribution to the residents of the State.
Speaking, the chairman of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustapha Olawuyi noted that, the 3,000 bags of rice received are intact and are yet to be distributed.
He assured that the vulnerable people would be the only people to benefit from the palliative.
