OSUN GOVT, LABOUR AGREE ON NEW MINIMUM WAGE
The Osun State Government and Labour Unions in the State have agreed on new minimum wage.
Consequently, the State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has announced implementation of the new minimum wage for Osun workers with effect from November 1, 2020.
He also announced lifting of ban on Annual Salary Increment which was done in 2012, embargo on promotions and conversions with immediate effect.
The Governor spoke on Friday while delivering a speech during the singing of the mutual agreement between the government and labour unions in the State.
“I’m delighted to announce that the implementation of the new minimum wage for Osun workers will commence on November 1, 2020”.
“This follows the perusal of the recommendations of Govt./Labour Committee that we set up to work out the modalities for resolving all workers’ welfare-related issues”.
“Additionally, we’ve lifted the ban on Annual Salary Increment which was done in 2012. Embargo on promotions & conversions is also lifted with immediate effect. This is in fulfilment our Administration’s pledge to give the welfare of our workers the deserved attention”.
Governor Oyetola appreciated Labour Leaders and entire workforce for service delivery to the people as well as selflessness, understanding, perseverance and love for the State.
He urged them to assist government in boasting Internally Generated Revenue, IGR to be able to meet up with financial responsibility and also growth and development of the state.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Jacob Adekomi had thanked the Governor for acceding to the calls to alleviate the suffering of workers.
“This is the best thing to have happened to civil servants in Osun State, I have been longing for it to happen during my time. I thank you Mr. Governor for breaking the jinx”, he said.
Adekomi however appealed to the Governor to intervene and resolve the crisis between the management and workers of Osun State University for peace to reign in the institution.
