Osun West Senatorial District Leaders Demand Equity in 2026 Governorship Race

Former members of the Osun State House of Assembly from the Osun West Senatorial District, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have called for equity, justice, and fairness in the distribution of the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

This was the central theme of the communiqué issued after their meeting, held on January 9, 2025, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The communiqué was signed by Hon. Ajibola Akinloye (Ola Oluwa), who served as Secretary, alongside other notable former legislators including Hon. Debo Akanbi (Ede North), Hon. Yemi Taiwo (Ayedaade), Hon. Abiodun Awolola (Egbedore), and Hon. Bayo Olodo (Ayedaade), among others.

The forum expressed their unflinching loyalty to the APC and its leader, His Excellency Gboyega Oyetola, the Honourable Minister for Marine and Blue Economy. While pledging their unwavering support for Oyetola’s leadership, the group emphasized the need for equitable representation in the party’s leadership decisions.

In their communiqué, the leaders urged the party to zone the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District. They noted that since 1999, the Progressive Party has yet to offer the ticket to their district, unlike the other two senatorial zones.

“This imbalance is a matter of equity and justice. It is time for Osun West to have a sense of belonging in the Progressive Party,” they stated.

The forum, however, clarified that their request is subject to the decision of H.E. Gboyega Oyetola, who they acknowledged as having the “right of first refusal” to the APC governorship ticket. They also called for the immediate resumption of grassroots political activities to strengthen the party’s base and ensure victory over the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state come 2026.

The former lawmakers also, extended their gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his fiscal reforms, economic revival, and social welfare programs, describing them as critical to national development.

The meeting concluded with a united call for fairness, urging the party leadership to consider their plea in the spirit of inclusiveness and justice.
