Oyetola Presents Staff of Office to Oniwoye of Iwoye-Ijesa, Tasks Traditional Rulers On Maintaining Peace
Governor Gboyega Oyetola said support of traditional rulers in maintaining peace is sine qua non for government in achieving desired development of the State.
The Governor maintained that there is the need for everyone to understand no meaningful development can take place without peace and stability in any society.
Oyetola stated these on Tuesday during his presentation of Staff of office and instrument of appointment to the new Oniwoye of Iwoye-Ijesa, Oba Amos Adewumi Ogidiolu.
He tasked Oba Ogidiolu and other monarchs to continue to cooperate with the government in maintaining peace to fast track the development of the State.
“It is pertinent to mention that we have been able to maintain perfect peace within the nooks and crannies of the State. This gave the people peace of mind and the enabling environment to carry out their business without fear or attack.
“There is the need for all of us to understand that we cannot do anything without peace. Maintenance of peace of the society is sine qua non to development. We must continue to cooperate with the government to be able to deliver on its lofty ideas and programmes for the benefit of our people”, Oyetola said.
The Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rasak Adeosun, implored the people of Iwo-Ijesa to cooperate with the new Oniwoye and give him required supports in the interest of the town.
He said “I can see general acceptance of Kabiyesi of Oniwoye, I implore the chiefs and the entire sons and daughters of Iwoye Ijesa home and abroad to give Kabiyesi the required support and cooperation to enable him lift this ancient town to an enviable position”.
The new Oniwoye of Iwoye-Ijesa, Oba Amos Adewumi Ogidiolu thanked the Governor and the people of Iwoye for their roles in different capacity in making the day a reality.
Oba Ogidiolu said the presentation of the staff of office demonstrated the the love and support that the government has for people of Iwoye-Ijesa as well as the commitment towards ensuring that the community does not remain rudderless.
He said ” the people of Iwoye-Ijesa particularly the royal house of Atokobo are very grateful to you (governor) for laying the ground rules which guided the kingmakers in the selection process based on equity, fairness and justice and in line with the provision of the 2007 amended declaration”
The president, Iwoye-Ijesa Descendants Union, Prince Oluwole Ogini had in an address noted that the selection of Oba Ogidiolu was devoid of rancour and acrimony, attesting to the love that the people have for him.
Ogini seized the opportunity to appeal to government to improve on public infrastructure in Iwoye just as he asked for more presence of government in the town.
