Oyetola Will Continue To Develop School Sports – Osun Sports Commissioner, Yemi Lawal

Commissioner for Sports, Hon Yemi Lawal says the present administration is determined to use sports and sporting activities as a unifying factor and as a tool for engaging the youths away from evil vices.

The Commissioner stated this while declaring open the Inter School Indoor Sports Competition organised as part of activities marking the 2021 Press Week of the State Information Chapel of Osun NUJ.

The Commissioner who was represented at the occasion by the Director of Sports at the Ministry, Mr Layi Adesiyan stressed that the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola would not relent it’s efforts to continue to develop school sports in the state.

In an address, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode enjoined residents of the state to always engage in sporting activities as means of getting healthy and stay fit at all times.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Coordinating Director in the Ministry, Mrs Bukola Aderibigbe also noted that sports if well harnessed has the capacity to generate employment among youths in the state.

Indoor sports competition were held among selected secondary schools across the state as students from Obalaoye Grammar School, Ede, Ife-Oluwa Grammar School, Osogbo, Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, Iloko Model College, Iloko among others competed in Table tennis, Scrabble and Ayo Olopon.

In the game of Table tennis, Musa Khadija of Adventist Grammar School, Ede brushed aside Wisdom Prosper of Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo by 3 sets to 1, while Salawu Aishat of Iloko Model College outsmarted Sodiq Gbenga of Fakunle Comprehensive High School by 253 points to 165 points in the game of scrabble.

It was another fierce encounter in the game of Ayo Olopon where Ige Julius of Obalaoye Grammar School Ede outshined Hammed Ismail of Adventist Grammar School also from Ede to clinch the first position.

Gift items where presented to all the participating schools at the end of the competition.

The Press Week of the State Information Chapel will come to it’s climax tommorow where the Governor of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola would be presented with an award as the Best Performing Governor On Health Intervention coming up at the Multi-purpose hall of the local government service commission by 2pm.
