Rumored Closure of Osogbo Artists Village: Figment of Mongers’ Imagination – Committee
The committee saddled with responsibility for the management of Osogbo Artists Village has debunked the rumour going round that artists were no longer working at the village since it was ravaged by inferno.
A release signed and made available to Daily Mail by the Spokesman, Osogbo Artists Village, Villager Ganiyu Ibikunle described the rumour as baseless and a figment of imagination of the originators.
The Osogbo artists village was on the 5th of March 2021 engulfed by inferno leading to loss of valuable works of art and the entire building.
Artists at the village had called on governments at all levels as well as well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid with a view to ensuring that the village came back alive.
Meanwhile, the artists had since ensured that works continue at the village despite the havoc wrecked by the fire outbreak.
The statement read, “The committee saddled with the responsible for the management of the Osogbo Artists Village due to the recent inferno that occurred on the 5th of March 2021 debunked the rumor circulating the state that the artists were not working anymore at the Osogbo Artists Village as a lie and rumor.
“We are using this medium to inform the people of the state and Nigerians that the work in all categories of arts is still ongoing at a temporary site within the village located at Osun Sacred Grove Osogbo, Osun State Nigeria.
“We hereby call on tourists and art lovers to visit and patronage the artwork and support the artists in promoting the Osogbo arts”.
According to the release, the committee again reechoed the calls of the artists on government, private and organizations, including philanthropists to assist in reconstructing the Village.
“The committee also calls on the government at all levels, private and public organizations, and philanthropists to assist in rebuilding the Osogbo Artists Village back to life and empower the victim artists who lost their arts to the inferno”, the statement added.
