A midnight attack on Yelewata community in Benue State on Friday, June 13, has claimed several lives, with many others injured. The attack, attributed to armed herdsmen, occurred around 10 pm, leaving residents in shock and fear.

According to reports, at least 16 people were injured in the attack, while the number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed. The community is still reeling from the aftermath of the attack.

In a related development, security forces responding to the distress call were ambushed in Daudu while en route to the scene. The ambush claimed the lives of two soldiers and one Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) official.

A community source paid tribute to the fallen security personnel, saying, “These brave men paid the ultimate price in service to our people. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

The security forces have launched an investigation into the attack, and efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
