Stakeholders Push Intentional Parenting at Akinlalu Education Summit
Education stakeholders, traditional rulers, parents, and community leaders on Thursday gathered at Akinlalu Secondary Commercial College for the second edition of the Akinlalu Educational Summit, as the community intensified efforts to reposition education through intentional parenting as a pathway to academic excellence and societal development.
The summit, themed “Repositioning the Education of Akinlalu Town Through Intentional Parenting,” was convened by Akinkunmi Akanbi and was described by participants as timely and impactful, providing a platform for discussions on parenting, academic excellence, discipline, moral values, and long-term societal progress.
Among the prominent dignitaries at the event was Alhaji Dr. Abdulfatai Adesina Kolawole, JP, a frontline educationist and former Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), whose presence and support were said to have significantly enhanced the success of the summit. The convener expressed appreciation to Dr. Kolawole for honouring the invitation and for his financial contribution to the programme.
Traditional rulers also graced the occasion, including HRM Oba Israel Idowu Oloyede, the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu and Royal Father of the Day, and HRM Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, whose presence added royal prestige and cultural depth to the gathering.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Abayomi Adebayo of Obafemi Awolowo University, who spoke on intentional parenting as a foundation for educational and societal transformation, stressing that parental guidance plays a decisive role in shaping learners’ character, focus, and academic outcomes.
Also in attendance were Mrs. Mojisola Ogunyemi, Proprietress of Arise Shine Divine Academy, Ile-Ife, who served as a panelist, as well as Bishop Bayo and Pastor Mrs. Yusuff (UK), Special Guests of Honour. Their contributions further enriched discussions on the need for proactive parenting and strengthened community collaboration in repositioning education.
The Chairman of Ife East Area Office, Modakeke, Hon. Mojeed Lawal, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to educational advancement, announcing plans to roll out educational programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting academic excellence, moral discipline, and holistic development in both public and private schools across the area.
Speaking at the summit, Alhaji Dr. Abdulfatai Adesina Kolawole, JP, commended the vision and dedication of the convener and organising team, describing the summit as a strategic intervention capable of reshaping the educational narrative of Akinlalu and its environs.
He emphasised that sustainable educational reform must go beyond government policies to include deliberate parental involvement, strong community ownership, and moral leadership at all levels of society.
Participants at the summit agreed that the engagement had rekindled collective responsibility toward education, noting that intentional parenting remains vital to nurturing disciplined, focused, and purpose-driven learners who will emerge as responsible leaders in the future.
