Chairman and Pro-Chacellor, UNIOSUN, Mallam Yusuf Ali, SAN diclosed this at a press conference held to Herald the conference.

He said the State and the university were granted the hosting right by the committee at its 54th quarterly meeting in Abuja in December 2021.

According to Mallam Yusuf, the 6th biennial conference would discuss among others, the challenges of higher education in the country and and resulting negative impact on the quality of products of the system.

“As you are aware, the challenges of higher education in the country and and resulting negative impact on the quality of products of the system remain burning issue that has overtime, engaged the keen attention of critical stakeholders, including the Pro-Chacellor of State Owned universities.

“These include but are not limited to acute underfunding, disconnect between the curriculum and the demand and realities or our economy, graduate unemployment and un employability, institutional instability leading to unstable calendar.

“Other issues are political interference in university governance, erosion of autonomy, poor infrastructural and research facilities, inadequate staffing, especially of academic staff, and week leakages between universities and industries. Overtime, the intervention role by COPSUN has been very remarkable and this 6th biennial conference will not be different” he stated.

According to Ali, the opening session of the conference would have in attendance, the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi while the keynote address themed “State Ownership Dynamics, University Council and The Need For a New Social Contract Between Society and University” would be delivered by the Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, while Prof. Mustapha Akanbi and Prof. Mojeed Alabi are the discussants.
