US Govt Opens Information Center In UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo

US Govt Opens Information Center In Uniosun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo

The United States of America has opened a centre “window on America” at the Uniosun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for accessing information about the country, ideas for self-development and available opportunities.

This, was said would be achieved through internet surfing, zoom lectures, as well as through books, movies and magazines.

The center, ”WINDOW ON AMERICA“, an initiative of the Public Affairs Section of United State of America Embassy, Lagos, Nigeria is located in the Medical Library of Uniosun Teaching Hospital Osogbo.

Speaking at the inauguration in Osogbo, the Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy, Mr Stephen Ibelli, said the center is also designed to promote bilateral and mutual understanding between the US, the people of Nigeria in general and Osun State in particular.

According to Ibelli, American Windows in different parts of the world also provide information and engagement to teaming users with activities such as using films, discussions and lectures on current events, international affairs and much more.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Uniosun Teaching Hospital Osogbo, Prof Peter Olaitan noted that the initiative will foster mutual understanding and respect between the Nigerian government and the United States.

Prof. Olaitan thanked the US embassy in Nigeria for the opportunity which is not just for members of staff and students of the hospital but also members of the public.

He said “window America provides educational advice for those and who want to study in the United States. It provides information on how to handle Visa related questions.

“It also organizes workshops on a range of topics such as health, career and skills to English language learning.”


Prof. Olaitan added that “our staff and students have benefited from this window through employment webinar, workshops and seminars. American window also provides free access to eLibraryUSA (http://elibraryusa.state.gov) free access to read books on variety of topics, entrepreneurship, career, America history etc.”

While urging the staff and students of the hospital to make the best use of the center, the CMD thanked Osun State government for creating enabling environment for the international mutually benefiting programme.

Represented by Mr. Adekunle Osunwusi, the State commissioner for education, Folorunsho Oladoyin enjoined members of the public to take advantage of the center.
