Voter Apathy Mars Osun LG Polls, As Gov. Adekele Votes In Ede

…Police steer clear polling units, mount roadblocks

The ongoing local government election in Osun State has been characterised by voter apathy in many parts of the State.

Visits of Daily Mail to some parts of the three senatorial districts of the State showed a very low turn out of voters in a pocket of polling units while there were no voters in many others.

In many places visited in Osogbo local government area of the State, the Daily Mail was not able to sight any polling unit where voting was taking place.

The story was a bit different in Olorunda local government area, within Osogbo, the State Capital, as voting was still ongoing at Ward 5, Unit 2, Aganna Street, where the Federal lawmaker representing, Osogbo, Olorunda, Orolu and Irepodun, Hon. AbdulMoruf Adewale voted.

Officials of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC were seen attending to voters who lined up in an orderly manner for the accreditation and voting proper.

In an interview, Hon. Adewale described the process as peaceful in spite of the absence of security agencies anywhere near the polling unit.

The lawmaker however commended the police for maintaining law and order in their respective check points on the roads.

At about 10am, voting was also ongoing at Ward 6 unit 7 Owode1, Olorunda local government area.

In Egbedore local government area, Osun West Senatorial District, voting had been concluded by 10am according to those still at the voting unit, claiming that the process was rushed up due to allegation of a planned disruption by unknown elements.

Earlier at his Sagba, Abogunde unit 9 ward 2, in Ede North local government area, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke had cast his vote at exactly 7:50am while voting had been concluded at the unit by 8:05am
