The President, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, Dr Bayo Olugbemi said he remains committed to uplifting and developing education section.

Olugbemi was speaking in Ede, Osun State during the commissioning of a multipurpose Hall he built and donated to Redeemer’s University.

Named after his mother “Madam Abigail Olugbemi, the president, CIBN said building the multipurpose Hall was part of his promise to give back to the society, particularly in the education sector.

He said the decision was informed by his humble beginning and the grace of God he’s been enjoying after the turn around.

He said “In our family, we are actually products of God’s grace. I had a very humble beginnings our parents were not that lettered. Our grandfather tried to send one of his children to school, the man made it quick but he died very young. And that’s what I jokingly referred to as ‘boko haram’, (no to book) in our family. Because my grandfather thought it was because my uncle was sent to school that he was killed.

“Because of that for everybody no more schooling. When it got to my turn, God changed the story. A teacher who was also a prophet came and said God told him that young man will become great in life, however, if you fail to send him to secondary school, it won’t happen. That was the beginning of what we saw today.

“I took the decision some 25 years ago that I would have to give back to the society, help people especially in the area of education. And I have started with my primary school, my secondary school and some other tertiary institutions and today we are here doing this opening ceremony.

“I started in the school with giving prizes to the best student in banking and finance and in the faculty of management. My promise to God is that I have dedicated my life to affecting lives especially in education sector and this is just the beginning, we will still do more by God’s grace.”

The Vice Chancellor, Redeemer’s University, Prof. Charles Akilo had earlier on behalf of the school thanked Dr Olugbemi for making good his promise to the university.

Prof Akilo who alluded to the assertion that the donour was inspired by God to make the promise and fulfill it, therefore called on other philanthropists to rally support for the growth and development of education sector.
