Five people have been killed and 10 others rescued after a tanker loaded with 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) lost control and crashed into four vehicles along the Ojoo–Iwo Road Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The accident occurred around Aduloju Bus Stop on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The Oyo State Fire Service said in a statement that it received a distress call about the incident at 11:42 am and immediately deployed a response team to the scene.

According to the agency, the tanker, with registration number B14R316XB (Abuja), somersaulted and crashed into a Nissan Micra with registration number AGG669XK (Oyo), before colliding with three other vehicles whose registration numbers were yet to be identified.

The fire service said five victims were recovered dead and handed over to police officers from the Kajorepo Divisional Police Headquarters, while 10 others were rescued alive.

It added that its personnel sprayed the accident scene to prevent a fire outbreak, given the volume of fuel carried by the tanker.

Preliminary investigations by the agency indicated that brake failure caused the accident.

Officials of the Oyo State Fire Service, the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were at the scene to support the emergency response.

The OYRTMA team was led by its General Manager, Ayoade Adeoye, while the FRSC team was led by DRS S. Boladale of the Moniya Unit Command.
