2026 WCQ: Nigeria coach, Chelle speaks on South Africa’s use of ineligible player

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has urged FIFA to act quickly and make a decision on the possible three-point deduction facing South Africa for featuring an ineligible player during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Chelle stated this while speaking to reporters on Monday ahead of the Super Eagles’ tie with South Africa on Tuesday evening.

FIFA could deduct three points from Bafana Bafana after they fielded Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho in March.

Mokoena was not supposed to play the match as he was suspended because of yellow card accumulation.

“The talk about yellow card, FIFA need to manage it, this isn’t my problem,” Chelle said.

“My problem is my players first because they are focused [for the South Africa clash].

“But the reality, I think FIFA need to manage it quickly.”
