Osun Police Command Launches ‘Rescue Me App’ To Enhance Distress Calls Response
Osun state police command has launched a mobile application initiated by the Nigeria Police Force to reduce response time of attending to emergency situations.
The mobile application, known as NPF Rescue Me, was said to have been developed to enhance police efficiency and productiveness in rescuing victims in distress or emergency situation, and to support the police in reducing crime and criminality to a barest minimum
The application was launched at the police headquarters in Osogbo, Osun state capital during a sensitization meeting where stakeholders were informed and trained on its functionality and usage.
Addressing Journalists, the state PPRO, SP Yemisi Opalola who canvassed for adequate publicity of the App, was optimistic that the device will close the gap between the police and the public, as well as making it easy for police to nip crime in the bud.
She noted that while the application is specifically designed to enhance response to emergency and distress calls, Opalola was optimistic that it would also bring about efficiency in men and officers of the Force.
During his presentation, Head of ICT, Osun state police command, SP Mohammed Yunusa explained that by pressing the designated button, the App automatically switches on the camera and microphone on sender’s mobile phone to capture happenings within the vicinity .
SP Yunusa explained further that the information captured is then simultaneously relayed to the sender’s registered next of kins, the state command and the force headquarters, for quick and appropriate response to victims.
He encouraged the public to download and do necessary registration on the App to facilitate accurate report on emergency incident and to reduce the response time of police in attending to emergency situations.
The NPF Rescue Me App was unveiled last year by president Mohammed Buhari and launched by January this year at the police headquarters.
