Adedoyin, Others’ Trial, Court Reserves Ruling on Bail Applications

An Osun State high court sitting in Osogbo on Friday reserved ruling on bail applications for AbdulRahmon Adedoyin and six others standing trial in the alleged murder of Timothy Adegoke, a master student of Obafemi Awolowo university, Ile-ife.

A federal high court sitting in Abuja had struck out and transfered the case back to Osun for a fresh charge.

Adedoyin and six others were brought to court on Thursday on a fresh eleven count charge bothering on murder, conspiracy, felony among others.

Counsels to defendants were able to file written addresses of bail applications for six defendants excluding the seventh defendant who was just added to the charge.

They however prayed the court the permission to file a written address in respect of bail application for the 7th defendant which the court did.

At resumed hearing on Friday, counsel to the seventh defendant, Mr Okon Edett Ita, told the court a summon for bail of the 7th defendant has been brought to be admitted to bail pursuance to section 34(1), 35(1) for A and B and 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria as ameded.

He urged the court to consider the exhibit as exceptional circumstance in granting the application in favour of the 7th defendant.

However, the prosecution counsel, Omosun M.O countered the motion and urged the court to refuse the bail application considering the nature of the charge.

The presiding judge, Justice Adebola Adepele Ojo, reserved ruling on all bail applications for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th defendants till Monday, 7th of March, 2022 while full hearing was scheduled for same day.
