...describes it a campaign of calumny

…says support for Gov Adeleke’s political ambition is intact

The palace of the Timi of Ede has dismissed allegations circulating on social media suggesting that the monarch has withdrawn support for the political ambition of the Asiwaju of Ede and Governor of Osun State, describing the claims as false and a deliberate attempt to cause disaffection in the town.

In a statement issued by the palace on Sunday, the Director of Information and Protocol at Aafin Timi Agbale, Dapo Akinyele, said the video allegedly released by a faceless woman accusing the monarch of double standards was misleading and the handiwork of mischief makers.

The palace reaffirmed that the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, maintains cordial relations with the Adeleke family and has not jettisoned support for the political ambition of Ademola Adeleke.

Akinyele described the allegation as “a figment of imagination concocted by disgruntled elements and agents of fake news who are bent on disrupting the peaceful atmosphere currently prevailing in Ede.”

“The attention of Timi-in-Council has been drawn to a video being circulated on various social media platforms by a faceless lady alleging double standards by our highly revered royal father,” the statement read.

“To set the record straight, the purported withdrawal of support for the ambition of the Asiwaju of Ede land and incumbent Governor of Osun State is completely false and unfounded.”

The palace noted that the royal institution has enjoyed tremendous support from the Adeleke dynasty since the monarch ascended the throne in 2008 during the reign of the late Asiwaju of Ede, Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

According to the statement, members of the Adeleke family, including the governor and his siblings, Dr Tajudeen Adedeji Adeleke and the Yeyeluwa of Ede, Chief Modupe Adeleke-Sanni, have continued to support the Ede Traditional Council and contribute to the development of the town.

“The palace has been enjoying tremendous support from the Adeleke dynasty since the assumption of the throne of our forebears in 2008 during the era of the late Asiwaju of Ede land, Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke,” Akinyele said.

“To the glory of God, the incumbent governor and his siblings have remained a blessing to the Ede Traditional Council.”

He also called on residents of Ede to disregard the circulating claims and continue to support the traditional institution.

While appreciating the sons and daughters of the community for their loyalty to the throne, the palace urged politicians to avoid actions capable of creating tension in the town.

“We appeal to all politicians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to shun any form of propaganda capable of heating up the polity. Let us imbibe the spirit of oneness and join hands to advance the peace and development of Ede,” the statement added.

The palace also expressed hope that the town would continue to witness unity and progress, while praying for peace and prosperity for the community.
