Amotekun Arrests 27-Year-Old Hassan Olalekan for Armed Robbery, Looting in Osun
The Osun Amotekun Corps has apprehended a 27-year-old man, Hassan Olalekan, for his involvement in a string of armed robberies, looting, and burglary across various towns in Osun State. The suspect, who hails from Ile-Ife and reside in Ilesa, was arrested in Ila-Orangun and subsequently transferred to the State Headquarters for further investigation.
According to a release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Osun Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the felon was apprehended following a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.
The release noted that the suspect’s arrest has brought to light a series of criminal activities in which he has been implicated, alongside three other accomplices named as, Segun, Wale and Adebayo.
It read further “Hassan Olalekan and his gang are suspected to have been behind a series of robberies and burglaries in the towns of Ila-Orangun, Iree, and Ilesa. The gang, which was heavily armed, allegedly used firearms to terrorize residents, loot properties, and steal valuable items. The group was reportedly armed with three pistols and a barrel gun, which they used to threaten and overpower their victims during their criminal operations.
“In his confession to Amotekun operatives, Olalekan revealed that he and his three accomplices carried out the robberies across the three towns, using their weapons to force entry into homes and businesses, stealing cash, electronics, and other valuables. The group operated under the cover of darkness, avoiding detection as they moved from one location to another.
“The Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Dr. Omoyele Isaac Adekunle, speaking about the arrest, described Olalekan as a notorious criminal who had been terrorizing various parts of the state with his gang.”
“This arrest is a major breakthrough in our efforts to clamp down on criminal elements within Osun State. We are committed to ensuring that those who engage in such activities face the full force of the law,” Omoyele stated.
“The Osun Amotekun Corps, working in close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have since forwarded Olalekan’s case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry. Investigators are now working to track down the remaining members of the criminal gang, who are still at large. Additionally, efforts are being made to recover stolen items from the various robbery incidents.
“The Corps Commander emphasized the need for continued vigilance among residents and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “We appeal to the people of Osun State to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime. The safety of our communities depends on the collective efforts of all citizens,” Omoyele added.
“This arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts by Amotekun and other law enforcement agencies to combat the rising tide of violent crime in the state. With the confession of Olalekan, authorities are optimistic that they will soon capture his accomplices and restore peace to the affected communities.
“As investigations continue, the Osun Amotekun Corps have assured residents that they are committed to securing the state and making it safer for all its citizens, it added.
