Electricity Tariff Hike: See resolutions of Adhoc Committee
The Adhoc Committee comprising Labour Unions and Government representatives have adopted some resolutions in solving the criticism that followed hike in electricity tariff, the Minister of State Labour, Festus Keyamo has revealed.
The minister who is also chairman of the Adhoc Committee highlighted other resolutions which include using Value Added Tax, VAT proceeds to temporarily subsidize tariffs.
Keyamo noted that the committee will work for two more months to resolve other issues that may substantially affect tariff adjustments.
According to him, other immediate reliefs include provision of six million free meters to Nigerians, salary protection for electricity workers, mandatory refund for any over-billing during system transition by the Discos, monthly publication by National Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC of allowed billing of unmetered customers etc.
“Labour & Govt have adopted these Resolutions of the Adhoc Committee I chaired. Highlights include using VAT proceeds to temporarily subsidize tariffs whilst my Committee will work for two more months to resolve other issues that may substantially affect tariff adjustments”.
