No fewer than 87 suspects have been arrested and paraded by the police in Osun State for alleged involvement in the last weekend looting and destruction of public and private property at different places across the State.
The suspects were arrested at different locations together with their loots following series of operations carried out by Joint Task Force and the Amotekun Corps.
One of the suspects who was arrested on Saturday following police intelligence gathering, a 21 year old Aishat Mutiu confessed to have influenced people to loot and destroy at TUNS farm through her WhatsApp group platform..
Addressing journalists the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, Adebola Hamzat stated that whoever is found with stolen goods or harbouring anyone with looted items after 72 hours amnesty by the governor will be arrested and prosecuted.
Against this backdrop, Field commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Comrade Amitolu Shittu also warned that any landlord or neighbor who fails to report any suspected person within the 72 hour amnesty would be treated as accomplice when such a looter is eventually arrested.
Amitolu noted dangerous weapons displayed by some of the looters and the level of destruction is a pointer that a large number of them are criminals.
Looted items recovered include; 100 motorcycles, 30 generating sets, 40 refrigerators, 30 grinding machines, 40 sowing machines, furniture, home and office appliances, food items, among others.
The police says, the looted items were displayed for genuine owners to come forward for collection
