Osun NUJ condemns attack on member by NSCDC officers, demands public apology

Nigeria union of Journalists,Osun state council, has condemned the attack of its member,Toba Adedeji of The Nation Newspaper in Osun state, by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

A statement by the chairman of the Union, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and secretary, comrade Bukola Elufadejin described the attack as barbaric and uncivilized, especially by men in uniform who are expected to be above board in their professional conduct.

The statement noted that the Union will no longer condole such attack on its members especially at this political season and cautioned security agents not to allow themselves to be used for political game in the state.

It therefore, demanded public apology from Osun state command of Nigeria security and civil defence corps, adding that the Union will not be left with any other option other than to stop the coverage of all activities of the command if it fails to apologise to the Union.

Adedeji who was covering a protest by students under the aegis of National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) and National Association of Nigeria Students/Joint Campus Committee, (Osun Axis) at the NSCDC office was battered by the officers of the command for carrying out his professional responsibility.
