Police Arrest Cultists In Osun

 

The Osun State Police command has arrested some members of rival cult groups in Osogbo following a clash which led to the death two of them.

A statement by the Osun State Police Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola identified the cult members who lost their lives as one Akinwale Rotimi around Arikamlamu area of Osogbo and one Sogo Owonikoko popularly called “Marley” around Obate area, Osogbo.

The statement noted that one other cult member who was injured is still receiving treatment in an undisclosed Hospital.

It also added that, another ten suspected members of cult groups were arrested on Monday in a Hotel in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole local government area of the State.

The Statement reads in part: “Security Agencies in Osun State in a quest to ensure the people of the State sleep with their eyes closed and go about their legitimate business/work have unanimously and unequivocally mapped out stringent security mechanism to guarantee serene and peaceful atmosphere.

“It should be re-called that, on 28th March, 2021 some unscrupulous elements suspected to be Eiye and Aiye cult confraternity engaged themselves in supremacy battle which led to the death of one Akinwale Rotimi around Arikamlamu area of Osogbo and one Sogo Owonikoko popularly called “Marley” around Obate area, Osogbo, while one other member injured is still receiving treatment in the Hospital.

“Upon the report of the matter, Police together with other security agencies including local security outfits in the state swiftly swung into action which led to the arrest of some of the cult members who will be presented to the members of the public soonest before proper prosecution in the law court.

“Meanwhile, intensive manhunt is ongoing to ensure every member of the groups is arrested before mayhem is launched.

“In another development, today being 29th March, 2021, upon a tip-off received from the member of public that some suspected cult members are planning to carry out their nefarious activities around Ikire axis; Police operatives promptly moved in and arrested ten (10) suspected members of the cult groups in a Hotel.

“In view of this, the Command enjoined the general public as partner in Community Policing efforts, to provide us with adequate and useful information at any time when such unlawful gathering/activities is sighted before carrying out their evil activities.

“Parents and guardians are hereby advised to monitor their children to be law abiding and not allow their wards to be lured into any act that could truncate their future. This stern warning is imperative as anyone caught will be dealt with in accordance with the extant laws.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Olawale Olokode, psc further reiterates that, Security Agencies will continue to synergize and work assiduously to maintain law and order to tackle all forms of crimes to the barest minimum”.
