‘Reconstruction of Osogbo/Iwo-Ibadan Road Will Bring Us Out Of Isolation’ – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has said the reconstruction of Osogbo/Iwo/Ibadan road will bring the town and many others out of Isolation.

The monarch spoke on Tuesday during an inspection of the ongoing palative works being done on the road in Iwo area of Osun State, ahead of the proper reconstruction.

He lauded Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde for prioritising the need of the masses by approving reconstruction of the road.

Oba Akanbi commended the two governors for putting politics aside to work together as a response to the yearning of people of the area.

“The essence of the road construction is to enable a smooth and accident-free journey by travelers along Iwo, Ibadan and Osogbo road” he said.

Oluwo, who lamented on the deplorable condition of the road, expressed hope that its reconstruction would strengthen economic ties between Osun and Oyo states

He added that when completed, the road will expand socioeconomic activities of people in towns along the axis, boost their economic opportunities and keep them away from isolation.

The Managing Director of Peculiar consult, Engr. Adeleke Olanrewaju said the road reconstruction would be officially flaged-off on Monday, 24th October 2022.

Adeleke said the two states have shown commitment and the project would be completed in 18 months under the supervision of road management teams from both states.

He said his company has mobilized equipment and staff to site and has started palliative measures to ease vehicular movement along the road before the official flag off.

“What we are doing now, we have mobilise to site, this is 91KM road been funded by Oyo and Osun governments under collaborative effort called ‘Alternative funding approach.

“The flag off is going to be Monday 24th 2022 but between now and then we will be involving in palliative measures to ease vehicular movement along this road.

“The two states have shown commitment, the contract has been awarded to our organization, so we are good to go. We are going to deliver the road in 18 months which is the duration of the contract.

“I implore road users along this route to be patience with us. We have road Management team from the two states and we also have our flag men that are going to be diverting motorist to alternative route.

“By the time we are done with the construction of the road the time of movement between Ibadan and Iwo will be 25 minutes and from Iwo to Osogbo will be 23 minutes. What has been causing motorist 2 hours and lately 5 hours. So the travel time will be reduced to about 50 minutes” Adeleke said.
