Your record of achievements is unequal in Osun’ – Akeredolu lauds Oyetola

…as govt inaugurates flyover in Osogbo

Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, has salutee his Osun State counterpart, Gboyega Oyetola for sterling performance in delivering people oriented programmes.

He spoke in Osogbo at the inauguration of a flyover at Olaiya built by the administration of Governor Oyetola of Osun State.

Governor Akeredolu hailed Oyetola for being able to perform despite paucity of fund and myriads of challenges that he was faced with at the assumption office.

“It is important to me to say this for many reasons, I have followed the history of this (Osun) State for many years and with all due respect I am saying it without mincing word, Gboyega Oyetola has made a mark in this State. I’m overwhelmed to be part of this history. You make history and you have given me the privilege to be part of this history. I would never take for granted.”

“Governor Oyetola, you have faced a lot of challenges even from those who are supposed to be your friends. We know what you met in this state and we know what is in the state now. I am not afraid to say the fact, you have tried. You were here when salaries were owed and you came and today the state is not owing salaries.”

“Making interest of the people of the state has been your priority. Even though we are are owing in ondo state. For me, development is about people. All efforts conceived and geared towards the amelioration of the welfare of the people must be commended. You are indeed a talk and do governor. Any government that prioritizes the interest of the people is an organized one.

Delivering his speech, Governor Oyetola said the construction of the flyover was a child of necessity aimed at putting a permanent end to avoidable road accidents and other mishaps hitherto being experienced by road users at the spot.

He said the completion of the flyover was an attestation to the efficacy of the Alternative Project Funding System, a model introduced by his government to boost the State’s development and infrastructure needs.

He said, “This is another fulfilment of our electoral promise we exchanged for the mandate of our people”.

He said his government has so far proved that infrastructure and economic development are doable in a depressed economy and that stagnated development in a struggling economy is a product of intellectual laziness, dearth of creativity, shortage of innovation and lack of political will.

“It (Olaiya flyover) is a worthy complement to the over 500km roads we have rehabilitated and constructed in our four years in government so far.

“Fixing our State’s infrastructure deficit is a critical item on our Development Agenda. This is because no economy can truly succeed without adequate infrastructure to make life easy for residents and businesses.

“This realisation accounts for why we are engaging in mass spread of infrastructure development across the State to stimulate development in line with our Development Agenda.

Speaking, the state commissioner for works and transport, Remi Omowaye said the government had constructed nothing less down 50 roads without borrowing.

“We completed this project under a year, we did not borrow a kobo, we did not compromise standard and this has changed the face of Osogbo. No cases of accident again. It has eliminated traffic congestion.”

I’m particular glad that under this administration we have constructed nothing less than 50 roads without borrowing a kobo. I’m glad we concieved it and we were able to do it,” he said.

The Managing Director, Peculiar Ultimate Concern, who handled the project, Lanre Adeleke assured the people of the quality of work done on the flyover.

He noted that flyover has the capacity to meet immediate and future needs of the road users.

He said: “Every engineering work is meant to meet immediate and future requirements. This project has met its billing. It has solved all the immediate problems and future road mishaps. I commend the Alternative Project Funding Approach of the State that has helped to actualise this iconic Olaiya flyover.”

“The project has been in used for the past 9 months and all of us have witnessed the solutions it has brought to bare in terms of solving traffic jam with this axis and I’m glad to be part of infrastructural development within the state of Osun.”
